Afghan media report says amnesty decree was ruse to track, detain, torture & kill former govt & military personnel; UK leak made little difference

July 17, 2025 (From 8AM) — The Daily Telegraph, citing Taliban members, reported that the group has a list of Afghan citizens who have collaborated with the UK. The list was leaked by a British official in 2022. The Taliban told the newspaper that those on the list were banned from leaving the country, were considered “spies” and were not included in the group’s amnesty. However, the previous Conservative government in Britain became aware of the security breach in August 2023, a year after the information was leaked, when some of the data was published on the social network Facebook. Following the leak, the British government launched a secret program and transferred thousands of people to the UK.
